I can't speak for Cicada but if it were me I would use a holesaw. It's just an attachment to a power drill, as long as it doesn't slip it'll make a nice round hole like that. I would imagine that's what Cicada did, but I can't be sure.

Yep! We have a drill press and have several holesaws of different diameters, so the cut is nice and smooth.
