didn't plan on hatching any. my adult mourning geckos ALWAYS lay their eggs in the hardest spots to get. i usually end up crushing the eggs on cleaning day. back in Feb (or March?) i finally got a pair laid on some egg create and popped 'em in the incubator. waited, waited, nothing. i had extra room, and they weren't molding so i was just lazy and left them.
yesterday, they hatched!!
so tiny! 8-)

Very cool, Julie!  Hope you have better luck "containing" your first pair than I did!  Roll Eyes Wink

Just throw the babies in a well planted terrarium and feed em some CGD and fruitflies.  They will do okay.

Nice! The babies are so fast and small! I've also lost a few in my day... I just leave the eggs in the cage and they usually hatch just fine on there own kept at room temp... I've never had my female lay where I could get them out.

I can't remember WHO told me (so this is NOT reliable intel!), but the last thing I heard was 7 months.  Doesn't sound right, though.   Huh  I'm pretty sure that the last babies I got (about a year ago) still haven't laid for me, although they are adult sized.  Maybe the time of year?  Most of my gravid ones are developing a single egg this time, too..... maybe they're cooloing themselves down on the egg production?

I had a clutch more pull a surprise hatch on me a couple weeks ago. I'm keeping them differently and feeding fruit flies instead of pinhead crix this time, so we'll see what happens!

Hey guys/girls,

We started leaving old CGD cups in their cage and letting the fruit flies lay their eggs in it.  The larvae make the perfect meal for mourning geckos of all ages. Other than that, all we offer is CGD.

I can't remember who asked about age, but it's usually around a year before they're laying eggs, at least in my experience.

Funny story...I once left a cage door open and lost my entire colony in my old house.  That was 2005 or 2006.  I've since rebuilt my colony from a single egg.

I did CGD with my first two clutches and all they did was bathe in it. It's REALLY hard to soak and wipe off hatchling mourning geckos!  I'm feeding fruitflies and going drier to eliminate the shedding issues (they were also too wet) I had with the ones I lost.  I put a half a drop of CGD on an overturned 1/2 solo cup and the fruit flies DEFINITELY love the stuff.  So do the geckos... which enjoy ambushing the flies as they eat.  Wink

All my adults get CGD at all times and roach nymphs once every 1-2 weeks.  My learning curve has definitely been a bit "off" on these guys, but I think I've found what works, now..... and if it ain't broke, I'm not gonna try and fix it!!
