Wow, that is amazing!!! I have always wanted one of these but I just can't seem to find one for the right price at the right time. They're so cute
It's awesome that these babies lived, if mine ever did that I wouldn't think it would EVER hatch out!!!

Very cool! If this ends up being the norm for female leachies, I would think the price would drop out underneath them...? It will be interesting to see how this affects the market! I can't remember... has your virgin female laid yet?

Update on my Parthenogenic female pair... 4 clutches so far for this year. The first clutch was infertile and the other 3 are looking good. Last year I ended up with 11 clutches with 2 hatching. Only one survived and is doing fine. The other hatchling was deformed and did not make it.
I have been documenting all of this for future publication.

Very cool. Any idea on gender? Depending on the genetics of these guys, they should either all be male or all female. If leachies are ZW, like Komodo dragons, they should all be male. If XY, they would all be female clones of the mother.
Good luck, and keep us updated!

XY female. The females recently laid clutches 11 days apart. I can't wait to have another one hatch out.

Wow that is crazy. How many have you had this year hatch? Do you keep the two females housed together?

None have hatched this year and yes, they are housed together. They tend to outgrow the egg and don't survive. I am currently trying different incubation temps and substrates to help this situation. It may just be a genetic issue. I have many theories that I am trying to work out at this point.

Two parthenogenic leachies, one from each mother, hatched two days apart from one another. I have not heard of anyone else claiming more than one occurrence at this point. The Anas hatched Nov. 27th and 29th and are doing well and gaining weight. The first Ana (McCoy) is also doing well and I am hoping it will produce viable eggs by the end of next year... a second generation!

very interesting! i was wondering though, it seems all the reported cases of parthenogenesis in leachies are from isle forms (nuu anna, nuu ami, various other R. L. henkelli) have you heard of this happening in GT animals at all?
this is just a shot in the dark, but could the ability to reproduce parthenogenically be something that developed only in the non- GT leachies? (smaller populations, and more isolated populations on small islands being the main catalyst for the change)

From what I have read, parthenogenesis appears to be more common in island species. So I don't think that you are too far off with your assumption.
I am wondering about any claims of parthenogenesis in anything other than Nuu Anas, did someone claim it in another morphtype?
