I have just discovered that the reason I can't find any CGD in pet stores is it's currently banned from crossing the border from US to Canada. That means I also won't be able to order it online, since they won't ship it over the border.

Does anyone either know somewhere that has it in stock, or else have any suggestions for what to feed my gecko until I can get CGD again? He won't eat worms, and had recently decided he won't hunt crickets anymore either. I know babyfood isn't great, but is there a supplement I can add to it to make it okay?

Is it available through Northern Geckos???

Are you close enough to the border to make run to a PetSmart??

I really don't know of any way to mix up a diet that would be good for them... Sad

I think there were some regulations regarding the egg powder in Repashy's CGD. However, there are several online retailers that you can order from.

Pangea is US-based but ships to Canada: http://www.pangeareptile.com/
Northern Gecko: http://www.northerngecko.ca
Bo Gecko: http://www.bogecko.ca/products.htm

If you don't want to order online, I know there are pet stores that do carry CGD, but maybe not the chains.

There is another diet "Clark's Gecko Diet" that many people have had success with. Either way, your gecko will be fine without food even if you have to wait a week or so to get the right diet for him.

Good luck finding what you need!

How long does it take for the bulk bags of food to go bad? Is it freezable? My concern with buying the bags is that I usually buy the 50 gram (1.75oz) jar, and since I only have one gecko, it lasts close to 6 months. I'd hate to waste all that food & money only to have it go bad long before my little Sabin can eat it all.

I'm about a 4 hour drive from the border and don't have a passport, so driving to the US to hit up a Petsmart wouldn't work at all. Northern Gecko may work to order from, but any US based online store is no good, since the food isn't allowed to cross the border.

I keep my dry CGD in the freezer all the time.

I'd get a 1/4 pound bag (the smallest available) and keep it in the original mylar pouch, but place that one inside a zip-lock type storage bag and toss it in the freezer.

It lasts damned near forever that way.
