Special needs geckos
«

Hey everyone-
I just wanted to take this opportunity to tell everybody that I would be happy to take any special needs gecko that you can not take care of or can not use. I love to take care of my animals (my sister is autistic and my only escape is my passion!) and any animal that requires extra care is welcome into my collection.
Thanks you guys!

Thank you so much for wanting to care for a special needs animal!! Not everyone has a soft spot in their hearts for animals that aren't "perfect".
My puppy-mill Beagle, a neurologically challenged cat, an MBD gecko, and one with an amputated paw all live with me. My home is their Forever Home!
If I hear of anyone who needs to re-home an special-needs gecko, I'll definitely let you know! You might want to check on the trades board at Pangea. They often have "special" geckos there that need a new home.
And if you do find one and need advice for out-fitting it's tank for easy mobility, let me know!!
One of my grandfather's sisters was autistic...never had the privilege of knowing her because this happened about 80 years ago, and the prognosis was not good for autistic children. Aunt Rosie passed away in her 20's.
In the meantime, you, your sister and your family will be in my prayers.
BIG HUGS!!!

Thanks Donna! I love ALL animals, especially animals with special needs because God put them on this planet for a reason and I feel that if somebody doesn't like and animal because it isn't "perfect" they should still have a loving and caring family. I used to take care of two cats (one had a missing paw and the other had a tail that was cut off) that were abandoned by our land and left to die. I couldn't imagine who would even come close to being able to do such a terrible act, but I took care of them until one of them died and the other got ran over by a car. They were the sweetest things and I wish I could have seen them right now when they would be all grown up.
Thank you for looking out for them for me! I will look around on pangea, can't wait to see if I can find one! I already have eyes on a gecko that is in Houston that is 50$ that is missing an eye (I am going to name him Pirate!
).
Thank you SO much Donna! God Bless!!!!!

Some people are just SICK and don't deserve to breathe air, let alone own a pet.
That's why I take in all the special little foundlings I can locate.
My Rotti-Shepherd-Timber Wolf mix was seriously mentally deficient from distemper when she was a tiny pup, but she had 7 1/2 wonderful, loving years.
They are ALL special in God's eyes.
I usually end up having very deep relationships with my "special" kids-more so than with the healthy ones...not that they're not loved and cared for, it's just the extra time and effort that goes into the care of the special ones...I'm sure you understand.
And when I lose them, I always wonder if there was one more thing i could have done to make their lives better or longer.
They are truly gifts from God.

Yeah, that is the only reason why I hate living out here. Everybody except us just DO NOT care for their pets! Everybody around here only keep their dogs for home defense, even though all they do is be chained up outside with a bowl of water and a bowl of food that they replace maybe once a week if they are lucky. Our dogs have two gallons of food and water that they can come inside and drink as they please. Our neighbors are always wondering why their dogs bite and jump but I always try to tell them that. I mean, some of them are good people like my neighbor, John and my other neighbor Paula, but theey don't give enough care to their animals.
Me too, I think that is why I love to have them so much, I just don't think I could've explained it better!
Yeah, I always think that after losing any of my animals. Even a roach that I lost I cried about losing because I have a strong bond with all of my animals.

I don't know how old you are, and if you're a minor, I wouldn't post your age for safety reasons, but have you considered a career in animals??
With your level of caring, I really think you should, if you're able!!
Just think of all the animals could could help!! And there are so many careers in animals!!! If you think you'd have problems euthanizing an animal, for example, there are jobs besides being a vet.

Yeah, I am 13. I have definitely considered it, but I have been wanting to go to college for a degree in entomology or herpetology. I would like to have a rescue facility though! But there is all sorts of possibilities right now because I am still pretty young and God and life could take me down a completely different path. I was thinking the other day of joining the Sea Shepherds (seashepherd.org if you don;t know what it is). I guess I will just go with the flow!

All those ideas are fantastic!!
As for the rescue, you can always get it started, and if you can find a bunch of like-minded people and get them trained, you can over-see them while you pursue your other dreams, too!!
If you do join the SeaShepherds, and you get the opportunity to meet Richard Dean Anderson, you have to give him a hug from a HUGE McGyver fan!!!

You should work at a no kill animal shelter! I work at one in indy and now i have a ton of cats of my own with special needs because at my shelter we go get animals that are about to be euthanized at other shelters and take them home. If we can't place them, then we keep them forever at a big home with all our unadoptable animals or a foster family will keep them. I have cats with respiratory infections, on with one eye, and one that's half deaf. Then I saved a pit bull ( which happen to be one of the sweetest breeds ever, i would know i work at a dog daycare hah ) But good luck with the gecko hunt, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Yup that is exactly what I was thinking! I would never be able to euthanize and animal! ahhhh I LOVE pit bulls! My dog is a pit bull mixed with a choc. lab and something else! He is awesome! I was looking on pangea a few minutes ago and I found some geckos that aren't even disabled for FREE, and I'm definitely taking a few of them! I hope I find some special geckos!

As the hatching season progresses, you'll see more special-needs geckos hatching.
Lots of people are now keeping them and letting them live out their lives rather than euthanizing them or giving them away.
Good for the geckos, but not so good for you.
Also, check your local PetCos and PetSmarts.
A lot of times, they don't catch a new gecko with deformities, and they'll adopt them out for a reduced price or for free, if you point out that there's a problem with the gecko!

Ahh! Good find! A lot of people try and rehome their geckos when theyre tight on money or their kids lose interest and they sell them for really cheap or just give them away for free. I almost got a few, but they were soo far away in like california...shipping costs hurt!
